The Hindi version of the film has earned around Rs 1.75-2 crore nett range. Interestingly, ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ Hindi has earned Rs 85 lakh nett in the Hindi circuits, reports Boxofficeindia. While the Tamil version has recorded a humongous opening of Rs 22 crore nett. The film earned around Rs 3.50 crore nett in Karnataka while Nizam / Andhra circuits added around Rs 4.50 crore nett to the total. The all India collection of ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ is said to be in the range of around Rs 35 crore nett. ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ has done excelled business overseas too. The film is expected to rake in $5 million in two days in USA. UAE has earned around $400k and United Kingdom has added £250k to the total.
Speaking about his magnum opus, director Mani Ratnam had told BT, “I’m really satisfied to have had the chance to do this film. It’s a difficult film, but every day, I had some kind of satisfaction. I was happy doing the film. And hopefully, the rest of the cast and crew were also happy. We had difficulties. We had to shoot through the pandemic. We had to wait, start-stop, start-stop.. That didn’t deter us. We went through with full conviction that we’d finish it.” ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ is a period saga adapted from a book by the same name. The film features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala among others. Mani Ratnam plans to release the film’s sequel in 2023.
