Drishyam director Abhishek Pathak: I was nervous about directing Ajay Devgn, but he made me comfortable – Exclusive – Times of India

The trailer for Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 released today and since then, fans have been talking about the franchise’s second installment. During the media event in Goa, the film’s director Abhishek Pathak, who took over the reigns of the franchise from late Nishikant Kamat, revealed his experiences of working on his second feature film as a director.

Abhishek has produced more than two dozen films including the acclaimed Pyaar Ka Punchnama movies, Raid, Drishyam, Section 375 and more. He’s also the son of Kumar Mangat and has known Ajay Devgn as a family friend and mentor all along. Speaking about directing Ajay for the first time, Abhishek said, ”

I have seen him for a long time. I call him Bhaiya (big brother). I was nervous on the first day of the shoot about how do I tell him to do things because he’s such a senior actor. But he made it comfortable for me. I don’t remember him coming to the monitor. He was doing what I was telling him and doing what the script required.”

Drishyam 2 also features Tabu reprising her role from the first film. Talking if working with her, Abhishek added, “Tabu ma’am is a fab actor. It’s been fabulous working with all of them. Nobody was intimidating. We had fun while shooting.”

The first Drishyam film, which was a remake of the Malayalam movie featuring Mohanlal, was directed by Nishikant Kamat. But after the director passed away in 2020, the reigns of Drishyam 2 were handed to Abhishek, who was also the producer of the first film. Abhishek has previously directed Ujda Chaman with Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo.
