In an interview with Hindustan Times, Urvashi said that as global personalities, celebs have to speak up when needed to not only offer our support, but also to educate others and spread the word. This is a very sensitive issue, but is extremely important for women empowerment shared Urvashi, who previously compared herself to the late Mahsa Amini in a post. “People need to stop oppressing women and start respecting and recognizing them. Feminism will regain its strength once women come together and consider one woman’s issue as an issue of entire womankind,” she was quoted saying.
Urvashi also mentioned that she was not just cutting her hair in solidarity with Iranian women but also for 19-year-old girl, Ankita Bhandari from Uttarakhand, who was recently murdered at the resort where she worked.
Not all of Urvashi Rautela’s followers on Instagram thought her action was useful. A section posted comments asking what she had done for India’s women. Another wrote, “India ki women ke liye hi kuch karlo pehle.”
Other Indian celebs like Priyanka Chopra Jonas have also shown solidarity for Iranian women.
