Shabana Azmi names Gunga Jumna, Devdas, Mughal-E-Azam and Shakti as her favourite films of Dilip Kumar.
Shabana adds, “Dilip Kumar was way ahead of his times. He was a complete actor. He could do drama romance and comedy like no other. As an actor I feel one can learn so much by just watching him.”
Paresh Rawal’s favourite Dilip Kumar films are Devdas, Gunga Jumna and Ram Aur Shyam while Urmila Matondkar zeroes in on Mehboob Khan’s Andaz where he played a spurned suitor to Nargis, as her favourite Dilip Kumar film.
Sharmila Tagore who worked with Dilip Kumar in only one film Dastaan, singles out Bimal Roy’s Madhumati as her favourite film.
Anupam Kher says, “Koi ek ho to bataoon. But of course Deedar, Mughal-E-Azam, Madhumati, Gopi, Ram Aur Shyam, which I’ve seen 10-11 times, Karma, Shakti… so many so many… I can’t think of them all now.”
Anees Bazmee feels there is no end to Dilip Kumar’s virtuosity, “Dilip saab ki har film mujhe pasand hai. Whether they were hits or flops made no difference. He was a complete star-actor who could rise above any script. Many actors shine only when the script is worthwhile. Dilip saab’s film may be bad. He could never be bad. Even those films of his which didn’t work at the box office are worth watching because of him. I’ve seen all his films. But if you insist on choosing my favourites, they would have to be Gunga Jumna, Ram Aur Shyam, Mughal-E-Azam, Devdas and Madhumati. These five films I can watch till the end of time.”
