Malayalam lyricist Beeyar Prasad passes away – Times of India


Malayalam lyricist and poet Beeyar Prasad passed away on Wednesday (Jan 4). He was 62. He reportedly breathed his last in a hospital in Changanassery, where he was on ventilator support.

Beeyar Prasad was reportedly under treatment after suffering from a brain haemorrhage in November last year. He had also undergone a kidney transplant in 2019.

A multi-hyphenate, Beeyar Prasad ventured in to the Malayalam movie industry in 2003 through Priyadarshan’s directorial ‘Kilichundan Mambazham’. From ‘Onnaam kili’ to ‘Kasavinte Thattamittu’, Beeyar Prasad penned all the songs for the Mohanlal starrer, and it was composed by Vidyasagar. ‘Kilichundan Mambazham’ was followed by many popular films including Priyadarshan’s ‘Vettam’.

His lyrics for the songs ‘Keranirakalaadum’ from ‘Jalolsavam’, and ‘Mazhathullikal Pozhinjeedumee’ from ‘Vettam’ struck a chord with the music lovers and audience. In his career spanned over one decade, Beeyar Prasad has penned lyrics to numerous songs in over 60 films.

A native of Mankompu, Alappuzha, Beeyar Prasad was born in 1961. He has also crafted the script for a children’s film titled ‘Johny’ in 1993. The film was helmed by Sangeeth Sivan, and it won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Children’s Film. Beeyar Prasad has also appeared in a brief role in the 2001 release ‘Theerthadanam’.

Meanwhile, Beeyar Prasad’s funeral will be held on Thursday (Jan 5).
