When Kamal Haasan addressed Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan; fans recall a scene from ‘Hey Ram’ – Times of India

Actor Kamal Haasan is currently shooting for his film ‘Indian 2’ with director Shankar. While the shooting for the movie is in full swing, Kamal Haasan took to social media on January 30 to pen a note marking Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse at Birla House in New Delhi.
Writing the note in Tamil, Kamal Haasan said, “Not a single day has passed in my life without thinking of Gandhi and uttering his name. There are many Gandhians even today who are proof that anyone can become a Gandhi if they try. I am one of those who try to be Gandhi. I bow on the Memorial Day.”

Commenting on his post, many netizens spoke about Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Hey Ram’ which was the story of the India – Pakistan partition and in the film, Kamal Haasan played an important role in planning the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. A few fans also noticed how Kamal Haasan in one of his scenes with Shah Rukh Khan, who played the role of Amjad, called the Bollywood actor as Pathaan. With the release of the new film ‘Pathaan’ featuring Shah Rukh Khan, fans discussed if Kamal Haasan already knew that the Bollywood Badshah will be perfect to play the role of a Pathaan.
Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Pathaan’ has been released in theatres on January 25 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil and the movie received a very good response from fans. Kamal took to Twitter to congratulate Shah Rukh Khan and wrote, “Hearing great reports about Pathan. Saket congratulates Pathan. Way to go brother.”

Kamal played the role of Saket Ram in the film who was on a killing spree after he lost his wife in riots and loses his close friend who moves to Pakistan during partition. Over time, he gets radicalised to assassinate Gandhiji and the film shows how he slowly understands that Mahatma Gandhi is not the main reason for the India – Pakistan partition. A couple of days back Kamal Haasan on Twitter explained what made him make the ‘Hey Ram’ film. His tweet read, “It was my way of saying sorry to my Bapu… I talk a lot about Gandhi ji now, but it wasn’t like that from the beginning. My father was a ‘Congressman’ but my environment made me a bitter critic of Gandhi ji when I was in my teens. My father said, ‘Just read history, you are talking from today.’ But today what matters is what… He is a lawyer, but he didn’t argue with me on this.”
