Bollywood’s Telugu takeover: ‘Shehzada’ to ‘Jersey’, remakes of hit South films | The Times of India



Bollywood has been remaking Telugu films since the late 1940s. These remakes usually involve adapting the plot, characters, and dialogue of a Telugu film to the Hindi film industry. Over the years, many classic Telugu films have been remade in Bollywood, including the likes of Prabhas’s ‘Varsham’, Mahesh Babu’s ‘Pokiri’, Ram Pothineni’s ‘Ready’, Ravi Teja’s ‘Vikramarkudu’ and Sunil’s ‘Maryada Ramanna’. Some of the biggest Bollywood hits, such as ‘Coolie No.1’, ‘No Entry’, and ‘Rowdy Rathore’ have been remade from Telugu films. Bollywood remakes of Telugu films often leverage the star power of the original actors, as well as the success of the original film. Having said that, here’re the five South films that were remade in Bollywood in the recent times.
