Aaliyah took to her social media handle to defend her friend who also happens to be a star kid – director Imtiaz Ali’s daughter – against trolls who slammed her for starting a crowdfunding page to support her college film titled ‘Red’.
“The rich asking for money, lol. Irony here is that she’s Imtiaz Ali’s daughter. Your friend’s father has paid for film school. He can definitely produce the film also,” read a DM on Aaliyah’s post which encouraged followers to donate any amount to help fund the film.
Reacting to the jibe, Aaliyah shared the screenshot of the comment and replied saying, “lmao. Firstly it’s extremely common practice for film students to crowd-fund their school films. Literally, almost all film students do so, especially for their senior films. Secondly, if her father produced her movie, then you would have a problem with it and call it nepotism. and now that she’s trying to do it on her own and WANTS to do it on her own that’s also apparently an issue?”
Anurag, in an interview early this year, mentioned how his daughter Aaliyah is supporting herself, earning money as a vlogger with her YouTube channel. He also remarked that she asked him not to question her lifestyle choices as she is earning her own money and paying her own rent.
