Displaying a comic talent that edged out other contemporary actors Kartik stole the show, lock stock and barrel. Kartik’s Guddu was endearingly guileless and eager to score.
There were no kisses between Kartik Aryan and Kriti Sanon in this film. And yet they communicated a warm, easygoing alliance that comes not from singing songs together but from recognizing your life partner for what she is. Most of the humour is generated organically and without making strenuous efforts to induce humour into social statement. Make no mistake about it. Luka Chuppi is a comedy with an underlying layer of dark satire and social statement on moral policing and communal biases in small towns.
Speaking on the success of Luka Chuppi, Kartik Aaryan says, “Luka Chuppi had a great mix of content with commercial sensibilities, which I really loved. Also, it was catering to the whole family while being true to the romcom genre. That’s a unique combination. Guddu was such an innocent, lovable and dilwala character that I knew he will make a place for himself in audience’s heart. I never want to do anything sleazy or vulgar or anything that would irk the audience and shame my family.”
The success of Luka Chuppi was very important to Kartik. “It was quite tough because there was a lot of pressure post the big success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. People were waiting to see what I’m going to do next. Thankfully, Luka Chuppi surpassed all the tests of audience reviewers and box office.”
