We are planning ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi 2’ with Govinda and Sanjay Dutt: Smita Thackeray – Exclusive! – Times of India

Social activist and film producer, Smita Thackeray forayed into film production thanks to her love and liking for films. Her desire to work closely with people associated with the craft of filmmaking led her to produce noteworthy movies like ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’, ‘Sandwich’, ‘Bhootnath’, ‘Housefull’, ‘Oh My God’ and a Marathi film called ‘R.A.A.D.A Rocks’ as well. In a conversation with ETimes, Smita opens up about her love for films, her plans to make ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi 2’, her wish to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and much more.
Talking about her fondness towards films, Smita says, “I was always inclined towards films and have had a special liking for Bollywood movies for a long time. I wanted to make a comedy film and adored Govinda as an actor. I wanted to work with him, David Dhawan and Chi Chi’s jodi was at the top during the 90s, so that’s how the idea to make ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ came to our mind. With the film, I got a chance to work with Govinda and it was a lovely collaboration.”

When asked whether she will work with the team again, Smita replies, “We would definitely like to work with the team again. In fact, we are also planning for ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi 2’ with Govinda and Sanju (Sanjay Dutt). Hope it materialises.”
Smita is inspired by the works of multiple film directors but she aspires to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “I would love to work with SLB. I love the way he frames his films. The grandeur and the detailing of his films is just outstanding,” she confesses.

Smita may have produced many Bollywood films, but it’s surprising that she has managed to produce just one Marathi film. While she loves Marathi cinema, her decision has been influenced by the commerce. She explains, “Producing a Marathi film is risky. I produced a Marathi film sometime back and it just didn’t do well. So how can we take a risk of producing a Marathi film again? Marathi cinema is doing wonders when it comes to content but somehow the audience has less reliability.”
