Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Pathaan’ landed itself into several controversies before its release. A section of the society demanded a boycott owing to the song ‘Besharam Rang’ and the fact that Deepika wore a saffron bikini in it. But everything changed post the film’s release as it turned out to be the highest grossing film of Hindi cinema.
But director Siddharth Anand has finally opened up on the saffron bikini controversy and revealed why they chose that colour. The filmmaker spoke at the News18 Rising India Summit 2023 and said that he chose the costume quite randomly and he didn’t give it much thought. The colour was looking nice and it was sunny, the grass was green amidst the backdrop of blue water and the colour orange looked good. The filmmaker clarified that their intention wasn’t wrong.

Anand also said that the way audiences flocked to the theatres to watch the film is proof that the whole boycott movement was wrong. He clarified that once people are calling for the boycott of a star or a movie, they aren’t seeing how many people’s livelihood depends on a particular movie, especially if it works. There are at least 300 people who work on a film set everyday and many people work after that on the VFX. So, it’s just easy for people to start the boycott trend without much thought.
Post the success of ‘Pathaan’, Siddharth has begun shoot of his next, ‘Fighter’ along with Deepika again. The film stars Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor along with the actress.
