Anubhav Sinha talks about Anek’s failure, reveals he sent out apologies to the crew for wasting their effort – Times of India

Anubhav Sinha, director, producer and writer with several hits under his belt like Article, Thappad, Tum Bin and Dus released his political thriller, Anek last year. The film was set in the North-East and had several North-Eastern actors playing key roles along with the leads essayed by Ayushmann Khurrana and Andrea Kevichusa. However, contrary to his predictions, people from the region too failed to connect with the actors or understand their pain. The result was that the film failed to leave a mark. In a recent chat with Sucharita Tyagi, he stated that perhaps the message the film was to convey did not touch more than 20 per cent of the audience. “People at large didn’t get it,” he lamented.

He took responsibility for the film’s failure and sent out messages to his production crew and others associated with the film. He apologised to each of them. He felt he had wasted their effort in this film.

After Anek, the director got busy with Bheed, a film that captured the post-2020 lockdown scenario with Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar accompanied by Ashutosh Rana and Kritika Kamra. It was recently released in theatres.
