Aaron Taylor-Johnson has sparked curiosity among movie-goers with his cryptic comment about his movie, Kraven the Hunter: “Yes, it is going to be rated R”. A look at the trailer explains just why this film has been rated R – for its explicit violence, blood and gore which will turn even a braveheart’s stomach upside down. Sony Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter is expected to be released on October 6 and is already gaining notoriety for being Sony Marvel’s first R-rated film. The focus is on Kraven, one of the most notorious anti-heroes to populate Spider-Man’s universe. He has had menacing encounters with Venom and Black Panther in previous films. This, most dreaded of all villains has Russell Crowe for his father who tells him in a voice-over during the trailer: “We are predators”. Another scene shows him teaching his son Kraven how to feel the spirit of a dead crow.
The first scene itself in the trailer is gory – Kraven is shown fighting and finishing off a band of Australian mercenaries by stabbing them mercilessly in the neck. He even bites off a nose with disdain – all this with another voice in the backdrop saying ominously that there is an animal in each one of us.
