Bhumika Chawla recalls being replaced by Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jab We Met: Bobby Deol and I were supposed to star in it – Times of India

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s 2007 film Jab We Met still remains one of the most loved movies in Bollywood. But did you know that Kareena was not the first choice for the film? Bhumika Chawla, who recently made her comeback on the big screen with Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, spoke about getting replaced in Jab We Met, which made her feel very bad.
In a chat show, when Bhumika was asked to reveal two major things in her acting career, she went on to recall how she couldn’t be part of Imtiaz Ali’s directorial. She revealed that she had already signed the film in which she was initially cast opposite Bobby Deol, adding that she was the first choice for the film, which was then-titled Train.

After the production house changed and Ashtavinayak took over, Bhumika was paired opposite Shahid. Then she eventually got replaced by Ayesha Takia and the team finally settled with Shahid and Kareena as the lead cast. She added that she had waited for Jab We Met for a year and did not sign any other film.

“That’s how the things happened. But it’s okay. I move on from such things very fast,” Bhumika said, adding that she had also signed Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Kannathil Muthamittal with Mani Ratnam but they did not happen. She also said that after the success of Tere Naam, she had gotten many offers but she was always selective about the projects.

Further into the conversation, Bhumika said that there is a shelf life for actresses in a commercial mass film even today. “Hero is still playing hero and the female lead has gone backward. The change will have to come from the industry. The audience can’t do that. If we change something, then the audience will accept it. If we don’t change it then how will they accept it?” she added.
