In a new interview, Suniel addressed the criticism received by KL Rahul saying that he has also been trolled in life and people had called him a bad actor. He also said that people ask him if he tells him what to do in such situations, “What can I tell him? He plays for the country. The honour of getting selected to play for the country and getting selected for that itself is a huge honour,” he added.
He questioned the credibility of trolls and asked how important are these people in their lives. He said that sometimes he pity them and also tried to understand them wondering it might be their frustration. “But that’s okay. His bat has to talk. Me or Rahul talking or anybody else talking is not gonna help us,” he added.
He further said that one might feel low at one point in life and high at another and when you come back home to your family, stress goes away. Similarly, KL Rahul has to practise and play because life doesn’t end at that.
“We have to move on. He is a strong boy. He has been at it since the age of 11. I love the way he plays. I am not someone who will ridicule a sportsman for anything. I’m blessed to have Rahul come into the family. But I was Rahul’s fan even before and I’m Rahul’s fan even today,” he said. For Suniel, KL Rahul is like his son Ahan Shetty and Athiya is blessed to have him in her life.
