Ponniyin Selvan 2 box office collection day 1: Aishwarya Rai and Vikram’s tragic love epic drama mints Rs 38 crore – Times of India

The historic epic drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ featuring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Trisha in the lead roles was released in the theatres yesterday. The sequel of the film has won a lot of love from the audience and the movie has been receiving multiple praises from fans and critics. Reportedly, the film was said to make a gross of Rs 30 crore at the box office on day 1 of its release, but breaking the expectation, the Mani Ratnam directorial has managed to make Rs 38 crore worldwide at the box office on day 1.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ gets a massive opening but it was not able to shatter the day 1 records of its prequel. ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ which was released on September 30, 2022 made a gross of Rs 80 crore on day 1 of its release. However, the prequel had early morning shows and was released in more than 4,500 screens but the second part of the films following the government order, had its first show only at 9 am and was released in over 3,200 screens.
Adapted from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel, the movie has been made into two parts from 5 books. Focussing on all the characters, Mani Ratnam has made sure to give a full treat visually and musically for the movie audience. Apart from the main cast, the film also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhitha Dhulipala, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Vikram Prabhu among others. The music for the movie is composed by AR Rahman.
