Action director Sham Kaushal recently recalled the time when he was diagnosed with cancer 20 years ago. Doctors had told him that he won’t survive for long but not only did Sham recover, he also experienced the best phase of his life.
In a new interview, Sham said that it was back in 2003 when he felt a lot of complications in his stomach after just returning from the Ladakh shoot schedule of Farhan Akhtar’s Lakshya. Later in October, he had to get admitted to Nanavati Hospital. After the surgery and the biopsy, the doctors told him about his cancer diagnosis and said that he won’t survive.
Sham said that Vicky (15) and Sunny (14) were teenagers at that time. He had accepted the fact that he won’t survive and prayed to God that he is not unhappy at 48, he has achieved a lot after starting from nothing. He asked God to take him away but if the almighty is going to save him, then he can’t live like a weak person.

As soon as he prayed, all his fears went away. He underwent a few surgeries and after 50 days of hospitalisation, Sham was discharged and he gradually recovered. He then saw the best days of his life, won all the awards for his films after 2003 and his kids also became successful after that.
In his earlier interview with The Times Of India, Sham had opened up about trying to return the signing amount of Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday. But the filmmaker decided to wait for him to recover. He had also thought about ending his life by jumping off the third floor because there was no chance for his recovery.
