During the past three years there has been tremendous speculation on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s bio-pic on the poet-thinker-reformist Sahir Ludhianvi. Abhishek Bachchan was penciled in to play the coveted role. But since then many caste changes had been suggested in various sections of the press. Names like Farhan Akhtar and Irrfan Khan cropped up as potential on-screen Sahir Ludhianvis.
The last one heard about the project was that it was apparently shelved.
That’s not true!
The film is very much on. It will be go on the floors some time in 2023. Says Sanjay Bhansali, “Sahir will be made only with Abhishek, and no other actor.”
It may be mentioned here that Priyanka Chopra was offered the role of Sahir Ludhianvi’s muse Amrita Pritam. She had suggested any other actor other than Abhishek Bachchan to play the eponymous part.
Bhansali politely but firmly stood by his casting of Sahir.
