Varun Sharma: Choocha has given me everything that I have today – Exclusive | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Varun Sharma, who is also known as Choocha, shares his 10th anniversary in the industry with his iconic movie Fukrey, that released in 2013. And in a few months from now, the third installment of the film will be released, where he will reprise the role of the naive and innocent Choocha.
A noticeable trend about Varun’s 10 year long career is that most of his films have been in the funny and comedy genre.Elaborating on it, Varun says, “ I love the genre, I love making people laugh and seeing them smile. However, I never knew that I could do comedy so well. During my college days when I used to do theater, I used to do plays of Anton Chekhov or Andha Yug or Ashwatthama etc, basically I used to do intense, hardcore theater. I was scared of comedy , as it was a tough genre to crack. I never knew I had that comic bone in me. It was only with my outing in Fukrey that I attempted comedy, and for that, I need to give huge credit to Mrigdeep Singh Lamba, director of Fukrey franchise, who carved out the character and me. “
However, in this industry, an actor quickly gets stereotyped and Varun is going through the same. He mentions, “A lot of people told me that I will get typecast but I love the genre too much to not do it. I want to try different genres. But if I’m in love with a genre, why should I stop? I’m also waiting for that right script to jump because I don’t want to do anything for the heck of it. “

10 Years Of Varun Sharma | Choocha, An ICONIC Character | REJECTIONS At Auditions | Fukrey 3

Talking about his iconic character Choocha, Varun remembers an anecdote that gave him immense joy. He says, “Choocha has changed my life, that character has given me everything that I have today. The biggest challenge for an actor today is to have acceptance from the audience and for me it happened in my very first film. So my maternal grandparent’s home is in Ghaziabad, and my cousin sent me a picture of a small barber shop from there. So in barber shops, the owner usually puts up pictures of movie stars and in there, they had put up a photo of Choocha and it gave me so much joy. For a kid who grew up in the 90s, it is a big thing to have your picture put up.”
