The British parliament will honour the cinema of Karan Johar at a special event on June 20 for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Karan who is currently on his annual holiday with his twins Roohi and Yash in London, says he doesn’t want to talk about the event, “Not out of misplaced sense of modesty, but because I genuinely feel I haven’t achieved enough to be so honoured. There are so many other filmmakers far more talented than me, whom I admire, likeSooraj Barjatya, Raju Hirani and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.”
Point out the global impact of his films Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and My Name Is Khan and Karan dismisses these achievements. “Back home I am yet to acquire the reputation of a serious director, probably because I do so many other things besides making films, including a gossipy chat show. But I would rather follow my heart than strive towards acquiring a ‘serious’ image.”
To be honoured by the British parliament is something Karan Johar’s children would one day feel proud about.
“I hope so. I hope they will be happy that they had me for their father,” says Karan emotionally.
