Anirudh has to be one of the most dynamic music directors in the country today. Just in 2023, he has given two massive hits in Nelson’s Rajinikanth starrer Jailer and Atlee’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan. While Jailer has collected more than Rs 400 crore, Jawan is currently at Rs 600 crore. And that is not all, Anirudh already has some of the biggest films to his name from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 to S Shankar’s Indian 2, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Tyson and both upcoming Rajinikanth films helmed by TJ Gnanavel and Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Jailer | Tamil Song – Hukum

During his conversation with Film Companion, the music director revealed that one of the biggest hits of the year ‘Hukum’, was originally not part of the script. He mentioned that initially, there was only one song in the film as per the script. But when he watched the film with the team, everyone felt that there was room for one more song and that song turned out to be ‘Hukum’. He shared that this song had the potential to be used for the flashback, when Rajinikanth enters as a cop and also when he arrives in the present timeline at the villain’s den.
In fact, Rajinikanth expressed appreciation for Anirudh’s work on Jailer, at the film’s press conference, too. He mentioned that Anirudh’s music elevated the film and improved the overall quality of the experience. He likened the effect of Anirudh’s music to the transformation of a bride after the make-up on her wedding day.
Anirudh began his music career with Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s 3, which featured Dhanush and Shruti Haasan. It was the viral song ‘Why this Kolaveri Di’, which went on to become an instant success and is still remembered today. Anirudh teamed up with Rajinikanth for the first time in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta and then in AR Murugadoss’ Darbar.
