Reviving old songs has been a trend in Bollywood for quite a long time now. This trend divided music lovers into two segments, on the one side we have people who are all for the idea of remixing, and on the other end, we have an audience that just wants to keep the authenticity of old songs untouched. Then comes people like veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, who is okay with the reviving of old songs as long as nobody adds bizarre stanzas to them.
Speaking to Cyrus Says, Javed Akhtar mentioned that he appreciates the fact that people wish to revive old classics and give importance to them. However, when the commercial aspects come in that is where it all goes wrong. He believes that when a bizarre stanza is added to a classic old song with beautiful and meaningful lyrics, it is a disrespect to its dignity. To set the record straight he even said that it is like putting psychedelic light in Ajanta or disco music in Taj Mahal.

He added that one should respect the cultural heritage of songs and honor the gems created by great musicians. As long as you want Arijit Singh to sing a KL Saigal song with new arrangements, it is fine, but if you add a rap in between, that is where the whole thing changes for the worse.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Javed Akhtar recently penned down the lyrics of ‘Sunoh’ for his daughter Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming movie ‘The Archies.’ The song has been garnering a lot of love from the audience, and it was something unique and different from what every one has seen in Javed Akhtar’s writing over the years.
