It’s been a while since a Salman Khan release lit up the box office. But this Diwali, Tiger 3 is up for release and trade experts are expecting the film to kick start some overdue celebrations for Bhai. Trade analysts are predicting a Rs 50 crore, Day 1 haul and that’s a minimum, if all goes well, that number could be a bigger one, too.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan says, “The Tigerfranchise stands as Salman Khan’s greatest asset, boasting not only his highest-grossing films but also capturing the hearts of audiences. His portrayal of Tiger has become iconic, as evident by the frenzy caused by a mere cameo in Pathaan. The anticipation for Tiger 3 is palpable with advance ticket sales opening recently and the early trends already hint at a box-office tsunami poised to sweep through this Diwali season. Salman’s Tiger is ready to roar and fans are ready to cheer.”
Unlike Shah Rukh Khan, who did attend events around both his 2023 releases Pathaan and Jawa , Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif haven’t really done anything to promote the film that releases on November 12 and happens to be a Sunday as well as Diwali day.
Trade analyst Girish Wankhede says, “Tiger 3 will open with more than 45 crores on Day 1, which will be the biggest for any film on Diwali day. Usually, the day of Diwali shows less engagement and footfalls due to celebrations at home, but this Diwali with Salman’s spy adventure, it is expected to be an exception. The humongous advance booking numbers of Tiger 3 indicate that the bad patch of Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Radhe is over with this potential blockbuster. Salman needed a huge draw to stay in the game and Tiger 3 was the answer. It will consolidate his position and power at the box office.”
Speaking about the Sunday release, Wankhede says, “This Sunday release is special and is happening for the first time. The reason is that no big film has released this Friday and Tiger will get the biggest festival week. The box office is already seeing a dry run with small films sinking left, right and center. The BO needs a biggie to be the game changer. This Sunday’s release strategy will open a new way of looking at the programming and release strategy of potential, big starrer hits.”
Tiger 3 is the third instalment in the franchise, that has been a very successful one at the box office. Trade analyst Girish Johar says, “This Diwali it’s going to be big fireworks at the box office. Tiger 3, toplined by Salman and Katrina, part of YRF Spy Universe, is going to unleash itself globally across cinemas. I am expecting a 100 crores GBOC (Gross Box Office Collection) start at least. On Saturday the overseas opening will kick off and then on Sunday it will be the turn of the home market release. Sunday evening may see some dip due to festivities, but the film will go ballistic from Monday onwards. Overall a mega start is expected. I feel Salmaniaa is about to begin.”
Komal Nahata concurs with the predictions and adds, “It is going to be an earth-shattering opening for Tiger 3. There are no two ways about it. Salman has not had a good run at the box office in the last few years l, so this film and its success is very important. From all that’s happening at the advance booking windows, as far as the hype and excitement are concerned, it seems very certain that this one is going to be a blockbuster.”
Trade expert Deepesh Shah chimes in, “A Salman Khan film release is a festival by itself. Tiger 3 is releasing on Diwali and it just means the festival and celebrations are going to get bigger. All that the promotions exercise needed to do was to needs to just establish the release date. The combination of YRF, the Tiger Franchise and Salman Khan is enough to bring in the audiences to the theatres.”
If Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 manages to register a Rs 45 to 50 crore number for Day 1 domestic collections, it will be a huge respite to the film industry. Ever since SRK’s Jawan released, no other Hindi film has managed to live up thrle proceedings at the box office. With the proposition of seeing Salman, SRK and Hrithik Roshan in the same film, the audience might just get its Diwali gift at the theatres.
