A source close to the makers JD Majethia and Aatish Kapdia, revealed to us that back in time when they wanted to turn the TV show into a film, a very big filmmaker suggested casting movie stars for the film, as that would make the project look big. When the makers asked whom they should consider for the cast, the filmmaker recommended that for Bapuji’s role (played by Anang Desai) , they should consider Amitabh Bachchan and for Praful’s role the makers could opt for Paresh Rawal. The filmmaker also added that for Hansa, they should stick to Supriya Pathak only.

Our source added that JD Majethia and the other creative stake holders weren’t convinced about casting an icon like Amitabh Bachchan in Bapuji’s role. The thought behind their reservation stemmed from the fact that Bapuji’s character is chided and treated in a less-than-flattering manner in the show. The makers felt the whole country would get upset if they saw the Amitabh Bachchan being treated that way. That’s why the idea of even approaching Amitabh Bachchan was dropped completely.
The thought process in the Khichdi creative team is that the cast of the show has worked out in such a way that each actor who portrays the role suits the character to the T. That’s why the makers decided to go ahead with the original cast of the show even for the big screen adaptation, revealed the source. Khichdi: The Movie came out in 2010 and it retained all key cast members in the cast which included, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Supriya Pathak and Vandana Pathak.
