Now the buzz going around the Bollywood corridors is that the film is based on the life of Indian Army’s Brigadier Farouk Bulsara who was instrumental in crushing the coup that took place in Maldives in 1988.
In 1988, a coup d’état attempt in the Maldives involved Maldivians, led by businessman Abdullah Luthufi, and armed mercenaries from the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), a Tamil secessionist group in Sri Lanka. Indian intervention in Operation Cactus successfully foiled the attempt to overthrow the Maldivian government.
The president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom reached out for help to many nations from Pakistan to Sri Lanka to Singapore to the United States to the United Kingdom and finally turned to India and within 16 hours, India was ready for its operation. Thus Operation Cactus was launched, which was led by Brigadier Farouk Bulsara.
Not many are aware that the script for the film has been doing the rounds of Bollywood producers for quite some time, back in 2022 Shahid Kapoor was locked in to play the lead but the film never took place.
