Hansal Mehta reviews Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dunki’, says, ‘Not perfect but so what?’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Dunki‘ released in theatres on December 21 and it clashed along with Prashanth Neel‘s ‘Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire’. The film had a decent opening on its first day as it made about Rs 30 crore in all languages. This was considered a decent opening despite the mixed reviews as it was a non-holiday release and a social comedy, different from all the action movies which have been working post pandemic. There’s also a section of the audience who has loved the movie.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta watched the SRK starrer and has penned a review. The director said, “I really enjoyed #Dunki. Not perfect but so what. It’s perfectly fine. It gave me what I miss at the movies. It was nostalgic, heartfelt, simple and an ode to what our films once used to be. Not a film I want to overanalyze or overthink. Give me a @RajkumarHirani film any day.”
He further praised Shah Rukh and the entire ensemble saying, “Nice to end the year with @iamsrk tugging at your heart strings, looking into her eyes with love and playing a softie. Lovely ensemble and an enduring charm pervades the film which is not a drama, not a comedy, not a tragedy and not a thriller. It is a Rajkumar Hirani film all the way. Go watch it and decide for yourself.”
‘Dunki’ also stars Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani and sees Vicky Kaushal in a cameo. The film is made on the subject of illegal immigration technique which is called ‘donkey route’ used to enter countries like US, UK and Canada.
Meanwhile, for work front on Hansal Mehta, the director’s next is called ‘The Buckingham Murders’ starring Kareena Kapoor Khan.
