At the ‘2023 MBC Drama Awards,’ Miyeon from (G)I-DLE sang her original song, ‘Painted On The Moonlight,’ from the popular K-Drama, My Dearest.
Even though Miyeon did her best during the live performance, some people felt it wasn’t as good as they expected. This led to many negative comments criticizing her singing abilities. According to Koreaboo, online communities like theqoo had several posts with 400 to 1,000 comments each, all talking about Miyeon’s singing.For a short time, the videos of her performance were reportedly taken down from NAVER TV and YouTube. While the reasons weren’t clear, many think it was because of the negative reactions from Korea.
After facing all the criticism, Miyeon took to her Instagram Stories to apologize to the viewers. She mentioned being nervous during the performance and acknowledged that she messed up. She shared, “Dear viewers of the MBC Drama Awards… And Nevies… I had the honor of performing a song tonight. And I was so excited to be able to sing a track that I love so much. But I was so nervous, and so I was off-pitch… I messed up big time. I monitored the performance, and I figured that I must have surprised a lot of people. I’m sorry for disappointing the viewers, especially when I was there to congratulate the celebration. Going forward, I’ll try even harder. The performance at SBS Entertainment Awards was a blast, too. Thank you all for watching.:”
