Manoj Bajpayee and Hansal Mehta have worked together on movies like ‘Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar’ and ‘Aligarh’. But Mehta recently revealed that he enjoys working with people who he gets along with and that doesn’t happen quite often. While talking about it, Mehta recalled the time on the sets of ‘Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar’.
He revealed during a roundtable by Cinema Express that an actor doesn’t need to be effusive to make an impression on him. Rajkummar Rao was just thrust upon Hansal by Anurag Kashyap and Mukesh Chhabra and they got along so well, that Hansal and Rajkummar have done six films together now. So, it’s about the connection. Hansal further revealed that Manoj Bajpayee has major mood swings. “We made Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! in 2000, and he was a pain in that film,” he said.
Mehta further said, “At heart, he’s a nice guy. He’s not a bad person. You get that vibe. When we were working together, I used to get very irritated. I would ask, ‘Manoj, why are you behaving like this?’ That was the time when Manoj would take the character and just go. I don’t know how he decided that the character should be irritable, but he thrust it on everyone. Everyone used to run away from him. Saurabh (Shukla) used to be like, ‘I went to speak to him and he was mean. What’s wrong with him?’”
Shukla has worked together with Manoj in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Satya’. Despite the experience on ‘Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar’, Mehta and Manoj again worked together in ‘Aligarh’. But, Hansal had also revealed in an interview that after they had a fall out on ‘Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar’, he did not speak to Manoj for six years.
After making acclaimed shows like ‘Scam 2003’ and ‘Scoop’ this year, Mehta’s next is called ‘The Buckingam Murders’ alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan.
