Actor Pankaj Tripathi candidly discussed the prevalent issue of stereotyping in Bollywood during a recent interview with ANI. Tripathi, who has carved a niche for himself in the industry, expressed his views on the industry’s tendency to stereotype roles based on appearances.
The seasoned actor highlighted an example, stating that even if industrialist Mukesh Ambani were to audition, he might not be cast as a wealthy character due to preconceived notions about appearance. Tripathi emphasized how cinema perpetuates stereotypes, citing instances where doctors are portrayed on screen with looks similar to actress Katrina Kaif, despite the contrast with real-life professionals at AIIMS.Acknowledging the evolving landscape, Tripathi noted that change is occurring, allowing for a more diverse representation of characters. He emphasised the need for authenticity in portraying characters, challenging traditional perceptions.
In the interview, Pankaj Tripathi shared insights into his upcoming role as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the film ‘Main Atal Hoon.’ The actor expressed his commitment to portraying Vajpayee with honesty and avoiding mere imitation. Tripathi explained his approach to the role, stating that he wanted to capture the essence of the former PM’s personality rather than mimic it.
