
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, ‘Killer Soup’ was recently released on the OTT platform and got a good response from the audience. It features Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sensharma in pivotal roles. Now, talking to the well-known publication, the director made some interesting revelations.
In an interview with Zoom, director Abhishek reveals that he had both Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sensharma in his mind for these roles even while they were writing the show.This rarely happens with him. But he was sure that they would be perfect for these parts and would have fun doing it. He approached them even before finishing the script and they were on board almost immediately. As a result of this, they saw their characters take shape and had plenty of time to prepare for them. Sayaji Shinde was also an early choice and he was excited about the character and the opportunity to work with Manoj again after two decades. They had worked together in School.
The director added the idea of ‘Killer Soup’ came to him from his co-writers and creators, Unaiza Merchant, Anant Tripathi and Harshad Nalawade. They picked it off a headline back in 2018 and developed the idea a bit before meeting him in 2019. More than the plot, which they worked on for two years, it was the unique tone of the story that appealed to him immediately, and he got excited. He naturally gravitated towards the idea of dark humour and working on the script for two years helped him develop an instinct towards its mood. By the time of the shoot, he was able to provide his cast and crew the framework to work with. There was always a danger of overdoing it. and they had to watch out for that. On the editing too, Sanyukta, Meghna and he had to make sure that all the ideas landed successfully.
‘Killer Soup’ also stars Nasser, Sayaji Shinde, Kani Kusruti, Lal, Anula Navlekar, Jasir, Rajeev Ravindranathan, Anbuthasan, Vaishali Bisht and Shilpa Mudbi.
