Rashmika Mandanna on Deepfake Video Controversy: Impact, Support, and Awareness | – Times of India

In November 2023, a deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna had gone viral on the internet. Many celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Vijay Deverakonda, Naga Chaitanya, Allu Arjun among several others had raised concerns about the misuse of technology and demanded severe action against the culprits.
Last week, the Delhi Police arrested a B-Tech graduate from Andhra Pradesh in connection with a deepfake video. Now, Rashmika has opened up about how she felt about the incident.
Explaining why she raised her voice against this issue, Rashmika highlighted the prevailing attitude of society that tends to dismiss the challenges faced by those in the entertainment industry. She stated that there’s a need to break free from societal norms and expectations.

Amid dating rumours, Rashmika Mandanna opens up about her bond with Vijay Deverakonda; says ‘He has supported me more than anyone else’

“So many times this happens, and you speak about it, and someone is like, ‘But you chose this job!’ Or you know, ‘This is how it’s going to be.’ ‘Like, why are you talking about it now?’ In my head, the only thing I was thinking about was that if this happened to me in college, I wouldn’t have anyone to come and support me,” Rashmika told We Are Yuvaa.

She further added, “So imagine some girl in her college had to go through the same thing. And I am like, dude, I am really scared for them. And if I am speaking about it, so there’s at least like 41 million people who know that, okay, there’s something called the deepfake. And this is not right. There’s something that is affecting emotions and causing stress in people in general. So I think bringing out that awareness was important to me.”

Last week, Rashmika had expressed her gratitude towards Delhi Police for apprehending those responsible for circulating her deepfake video. “Feeling truly grateful for the community that embraces me with love, support and shields me. Girls and boys – if your image is used or morphed anywhere without your consent. It is wrong! And I hope this is a reminder that you are surrounded by people who will support you and action will be taken,” she wrote on Twitter.
