Music maestro and Andhadhun actor Franco Vaz passes away at 69 | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Veteran drummer and rhythm wizard Franco Vaz passed away today. He was 69 years old. The musician fell unconscious after a fall at his residence and passed away.
In his illustrious career spanning five decades, Franco Vaz started off with Kasme Wade (1978) and worked closely with RDB as his main drummer.
Franco played the drums in award winning music director Uttam Singh’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai, the iconic solo rhythm featuring Madhuri Dixit.
Franco was also the man who played the drums for the chartbusters like the rock and roll in Papa Kehte Hai, Oh Maria and Rocky’s Aa Dekhe Zara. He also played the Rom-Toms, 7 drums, for Rocky Mera Naam.

Emminent film journalist Chaitanya Padukone told ETimes, “Franco and I shared a close bond since the past 40 years. We attended several RD Burman memorials together. He was a very humble and jovial person, full of life, zinda dil. I have lost a very good friend.”
Interestingly, he also played a part in front of the camera. Franco Vaz essayed the role of a club owner in Sriram Raghavan’s 2018 thriller ‘Andhadhun’, starring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role. “I was very happy when I saw him in Andhadhun. Franco insisted that he should play a rhythm in the movie since he came from a musical background and it made him feel comfortable,” added Chaitanya Padukone.
The veteran played the role of a club owner and Radhika Apte’s father in the movie.
