Shekhar Kapur‘s ‘Mr India’ is undoubtedly one of the most loved films we have in Bollywood. The movie has achieved cult status over the years. However, the filmmaker recently revealed that Anil Kapoor was extremely scared during the making of their iconic 1987 film Mr India, wondering if the movie would work at the box office.
During an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Shekhar Kapur revealed that Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor were quite anxious before the release of ‘Mr India.’ This was understandable as they had invested the entire family’s money into the project, which was a pioneering venture in its time, being one of the first superhero films of its era.

Shekhar Kapur recounted in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia that both Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor harbored significant apprehensions surrounding ‘Mr India.’ Their nervousness stemmed from the substantial investment of their family’s entire financial resources into the project. Anil Kapoor particularly exhibited a notable level of fear, both at the commencement of filming and upon the film’s release. The uncertainty of the film’s success led them to ponder anxiously about the potential loss of their invested capital and its ramifications for the family.

During the production of ‘Mr India,’ Shekhar Kapur shared that he would mentally converse with his 11-year-old self as a means to gauge the effectiveness of shots and lines with children. He explained that in his filmmaking process, he naturally encompasses various characters, including Mogambo, Hawa-Hawai, Mr. India, and all the children, suggesting an immersive approach to his craft.
‘Mr India’ also starred late actors like Sridevi, Satish Kaushik and Amrish Puri in key roles.
