In a recent interview with India Today, Aditya Dhar revealed that he did not get support from anyone whenever he has done anti-casting, breaking the traditional norms in the industry. While making his directorial debut, ‘URI: The Surgical Strike,’ he and his producer Ronnie Screwvala heard people saying they were making a mistake casting Vicky Kaushal for a film like this. But they were strong about the casting decision.
Aditya Dhar opens up on facing backlash for choosing Vicky Kaushal in ‘URI: The Surgical Strike’
He added, “Making a war film with a lanky boy who has no solo hero commercial film, will not be able to shoulder this one. We had a belief that we are working towards something extraordinary and wanted to prove people wrong. They should know it is more about where you are heading towards, not about where you are coming from. We worked ten times harder for that.”
Furthermore, Aditya has another two projects in the pipeline with unique casting. The first one is ‘Baramulla’ directed by Aditya Jhambale. It features Manav Kaul and Bhasha Suri. He is sure that people would never have seen Manav Kaul in a role like this, and it will be a complete transformation.
The second one is an action-comedy film starring Yami Gautam and Prateek Gandhi opposite each other. Aditya Dhar emphasizes, “It will be both phenomenal and hilarious. Prateek Gandhi’s character will make you feel like, ‘why didn’t we think of him like this?’. He finds this as the fun part of anti-casting, and he thinks it is fun to prove people wrong.
Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, ‘Article 370’ will hit theaters on February 23.
