Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has once again found himself embroiled in a legal trouble, this time in a cheque bouncing case. A Jamnagar court has handed down a two-year jail sentence along with a hefty fine to Santoshi. However, the filmmaker has denied the allegations.
Piyush Bhojani, legal representative of Ashok Lal who is a prominent industrialist from Jamnagar, revealed the details of the matter to ETimes. He told us, “There are 12 cases filed against Santoshi for cheque bouncing, each pertaining to a sum of Rs 10 lakh. These cheques were issued by Santoshi against a loan of Rs 1 crore 20 lakh extended to him by Ashok Lal.”
Bhojani further disclosed, “This is a decade-old cheque bouncing case, and despite repeated attempts to serve Santoshi with notices, he remained elusive. It was only after mounting pressure and lodging a complaint with the Juhu police that Santoshi finally appeared in court. Now, the court has pronounced a verdict of a two-year jail term and a fine of Rs 2 crore, which is twice the amount of the loan.”
