Anupam Kher: My mother still doesn’t know that Satish Kaushik is no more, I didn’t have the heart…’ – Exclusive : WATCH video | – Times of India

This year on March 8, it will be Satish Kaushik’s first death anniversary and incidentally, his film ‘Kaagaz 2‘ is set to release on March 1. Interestingly, this posthumous release also stars his best friend Anupam Kher, alongside actors like Darshan Kumar and Smriti Kalra. During a conversation with ETimes, when we asked Kher if it has finally sunk in that Kaushik is no more and how he has dealt with this loss, the veteran actor made a major revelation. “My birthday will never be the same again,” says Kher, since Satish Kaushik passed away just a day after his birthday.
He expresses, “March 7 was my birthday and it was the last time I had thought of inviting only him, Shashi and Vanshika to my house for dinner. My mother does not know till now that Satish Kaushik is no more. Because on March 7 at night, my mother was telling me to call him for dinner and I told her, I’ll call him on the 9th or 10th March. And he passed away on the 8th night. So, I did not have the heart to tell my mother that he’s no more, so she still doesn’t know and I hope it stays that way. She will not be able to deal with it. My birthday will never be special now because my birth is related to his death. Of course, I will celebrate but it won’t be the same ever. Memories have no time table, they come anytime. When I’m celebrating something and suddenly I might recall my fond memories with him, and unfortunately I have to live with it.”
Anupam reveals that this time he worked hard on his mental health, since he had experienced a similar low in 2012, when four of his close ones passed away. He says, “I had to stop myself from getting into depression because last time this happened to me in 2012. Yash Chopra ji, my father, my manager of that time Mr Shetty, and a lady, Sister Dolores – all four left me in 2011-2012 back to back. I pushed the emotions and as a result I went through depression. But this time, I fought it in a different manner. I dealt with it by remembering happy moments with him. The problem is this phone. It sends you memories. That’s frightening. Suddenly, one day some memory came up – a picture of Satish, Vanshika and me. I think Vanshika was four years old in that picture!”
“But I will remember him with great joy. Like they say we celebrate life and not mourn death,” concludes Kher with a smile.
