Former couple Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao found themselves in a unique situation during the pandemic. Despite their relationship falling apart, being locked in the same house wasn’t suffocating for them. Kiran Rao mentioned that the pandemic actually facilitated their separation process as it allowed them to focus on one common priority: ensuring their son Azad‘s well-being.
In 2021, Kiran and Aamir made the decision to end their 15-year-long romantic relationship. However, despite this personal transition, they remain committed to co-parenting their son, Azad, and continue to collaborate professionally.
In an interview with DNA, Kiran Rao said that for her, it’s been quite easy at some level to manage the separation of having both personal relationships that are no longer marriages as well as professional relationships. They decided that they wanted to change the definition of their relationship and end the social contract. They worked at it in a smooth way because they were conscious that Azad should not be, in any way, traumatised by this public breakup.
She added that they spent much more time together as a result of COVID. It was quite smooth, and she continues to value their ability to work together and professionally rely on each other.
On the work front, Kiran Rao is currently awaiting the release of her next directorial, Laapataa Ladies, set to release this Friday.
