Shehzad Khan, son of veteran actor Ajit, recently opened up in an interview, shedding light on the challenges his father encountered during his career. Ajit, renowned as a prominent villain of the 1960s and 1970s, initially began with supporting roles before gaining fame. Notably, he earned acclaim for his role in the Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala starrer ‘Naya Daur’.
In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Shehzad said that his father’s bad time started after ‘Naya Daur’.He didn’t have any work for 4-5 years. Heroes were insecure that if they worked with him, he’d take the awards and they wouldn’t get recognised. Shehzad recalled that his father showed him a gutter near Mohammed Ali Road and said that when he came to Mumbai from Hyderabad, he would sleep in those gutters.
Following Ajit’s demise in 1998, Shehzad Khan’s mother, Sara, was diagnosed with cancer. However, a few years later, Shehzad faced another challenge as his brothers declined to contribute to the expenses despite their financial stability. Shehzad disclosed that the funds left by his father were claimed by relatives and one of his brothers, making it demanding for him to afford his mother’s treatment. Shehzad said that his brother refused to pay the hospital bill of Rs 5,000 when his mother died. He had enough property, and he took her jewellery too, but refused to pay at the hospital.
Shehzad Khan gained fame for his portrayal of Bhalla in the beloved comedy movie ‘Andaz Apna Apna’.
