Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s recent meeting with veteran actor Vyjayanthimala in Chennai has garnered attention. The picture from their meeting is currently circulating on the internet, as it was shared on their official Twitter handle on Monday.
The first picture captures Prime Minister Modi extending a traditional greeting with folded hands to Vyjayanthimala while she gracefully drapes a cream-coloured shawl around him.Vyjayanthimala is elegantly attired in a cream and golden saree. Another photo depicts them seated together in a room engaged in discussion.
Sharing the pictures, PM Modi wrote, “Glad to have met Vyjayanthimala ji in Chennai. She has just been conferred the Padma Vibhushan and is admired across India for her exemplary contribution to the world of Indian cinema.” Responding to the post, a person wrote, “What a delightful encounter! Congratulations to Vyjayanthimala ji on receiving the Padma Vibhushan, a well-deserved recognition for her remarkable contributions to Indian cinema.”
“These are the true artists of the classics: Legend Shrimati Vyjayanthimala ji, a legendary Bharatnatyam dancer and phenomenal actress,” tweeted an X user. A fan said, “Her contributions to Bharatanatyam are even greater. She is undoubtedly the greatest exponent of the art form.”
On the eve of Republic Day 2024, the Padma Awards for 2024 were announced. Vyjayanthimala was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, one of the nation’s most esteemed civilian awards.
Actor Hema Malini recently had the pleasure of visiting Vyjayanthimala at her residence. Hema posted a series of pictures capturing their moments together. Vyjayanthimala looked elegant in a yellow saree, while Hema exuded grace in a green suit. “Most memorable day of my life: meeting my role model, the icon Vyjayanthimala, along with her lovely family at her Chennai residence yesterday,” Hema captioned the post.
She had also said, “She is so full of life, still so full of dance in her. She talks, dances, lives, and has a glow and aura around her. I was in as much awe as I was many years ago! We had a nostalgic discussion about her stint in film and her experiences in the industry. One has to learn a lot from her. It was a great moment for me to have been given so much love by this lovely lady—beautiful inside and out.”
On her work front, Vyjayanthimala embarked on her cinematic journey at the age of 16, making her screen debut in the Tamil film ‘Vaazhkai’ (1949). Her foray into Hindi cinema began with ‘Bahar’ in 1951. However, it was the romantic drama ‘Nagin’ (1954) that catapulted her to stardom, marking a significant breakthrough in her career. She went on to deliver memorable performances in iconic films such as ‘Devdas,’ ‘Sangam,’ ‘Madhumati,’ and ‘Naya Daur.’ Her last appearance on the silver screen was in the 1970 film ‘Ganwaar.’ Throughout her career, Vyjayanthimala left an indelible mark on Indian cinema with her talent and versatility.
