Imtiaz Ali reveals why he cast Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ | – Times of India

Imtiaz Ali, who is currently promoting his film, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila‘, recently opened up about why he cast Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles, who are also proficient singers.
Imtiaz emphasized the necessity of casting actors who are also singers for his film. He stressed the importance of live singing, stating that it was crucial for the actors to perform live. Diljit and Parineeti both recorded the songs after singing them live. Imtiaz had never previously had singers perform live during a shoot, but he believed it provided flexibility. If the live singing didn’t go as planned, they could always fall back on the recorded version and use it as playback, as is customary.

Despite the availability of recorded versions, Imtiaz chose to retain the live renditions in Amar Singh Chamkila. He expressed that Parineeti and Diljit’s live singing surpassed their studio recordings by a significant margin. Imtiaz highlighted the magical quality of live singing, which they successfully captured. The recorded versions served as backup. According to him, the songs sung by the actors in the film were performed live on location, akin to dialogue delivery, without any additional elements.
