Billie Eilish, Mark Ruffalo and other Hollywood stars hailed for donning red pins supporting cease-fire in Gaza | – Times of India

Hollywood stars didn’t just make fashion statements at the Oscars 2024, but also made some bold political statements on the red carpet. Several stars attending the Oscars ceremony were seen with red lapel pins as part of the ‘Artists4Ceasefire‘ movement, calling for a permanent and lasting ceasefire in Gaza as the Israel and Palestine conflict rages on.
Among the stars donning the red pins was Oscar-winner Billie Eilish, who paired her head-to-toe Chanel ensemble with the symbolic accessory. Joining her in the cause was her brother Finneas. The dynamic duo created history at the award show as they becamse the youngest to be crowned as two-time Oscar winners for “What Was I Made For” from the “Barbie” soundtrack which won for the Best Original Song.
Also joining the initiative is Egyptian-American actor Ramy Youssef, known for his role in “Poor Things”. While on the red carpet, he shared the message behind the pins, saying, “A bunch of us are wearing artists for ceasefire pins. We’re calling for an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”

Other prominent figures embracing the campaign include Eugene Lee Yang, Quannah Chasinghorse, Ava Duvernay, Swann Arlaud and Milo Machado-Graner who proudly wore pins adorned with the Palestinian flag.
Mark Ruffalo, a vocal advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza, continued to champion the cause while.

Mark took to his handle to pen a heartfelt note that read, “Tonight at the Oscars, I stand with the women of my @myvoicemychoiceorg, who use this “finger heart” to champion the RIGHT TO CHOOSE. The issue of reproductive rights reminds me of Poor Things. To quote from the film: “It is your body, Bella Baxter. Yours to give freely.” But the Far Right opposes this powerful message. In the US & EU alone, they’ve cut tens of millions of women from essential abortion rights.
So it was inspiring to see how women in Europe are already using the “heart finger” to express love for women’s rights at the ballot box. This symbol is meant to be a beautiful reminder that, like those 2 fingers, when we unite in solidarity across divides, we become the beating center of humanity’s heart. And voting is the lifeblood that keeps that heart strong.
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the heart symbol forms a ‘V’—for VOTE. Voting protects those the globally coordinated Far Right victimizes: women & children, democracy & our planet.
So, in 2024, let’s spread this symbol and use our votes to protect women & ALL LIFE!”

Oscar winners Mahershala Ali and Riz Ahmed were also spotted donning the pins to the awards show.
Over the past months, several actors have been donning the pins, advocating for peace. The show of support continued at the Oscars after party, where several stars, who weren’t at the ceremony, arrived donning the pins on their party jackets.
