Neelam Kothari made her debut into the world of movies back in the 80s, and climbed the ladder to become one of the most sought after actresses of her times, that is until one day, when she left everything and went the entrepreneurial way. She made her comeback to the world of entertainment, with Karan Johar backed reality show called The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. She also entered the space of podcasts with Wastelanders: Wolverine. She is playing the role of Jean Grey, who has telepathic powers.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actress opened up about her audio experience, as this was the first time she was giving her voice to a project which had no visuals. She said, “In the beginning, it was a little challenging, as it’s difficult lending your voice to no visuals. You’re sort of recreating everything in your head. Yes, the story is written, the script is written, the dialogues are written, but still it’s your own version. And, you know, there’s only so much that you can sort of improvise when you’re just lending your voice. So in the beginning, I found it a little challenging and odd because, of course, I’ve dubbed before, but I’ve always dubbed my version of a scene, my version of a character. But here the format is so specific, so I had to hear the English version and then do the Hindi one. But, I dived straight into the character and her personality.”
Talking about embracing new challenges, she said, “I think it’s very important to be doing projects that are relevant, and sort of be clued in with new formats. Audio today is huge, and I’m very lucky to be associated with Marvel’s Wastelanders: Wolverine, a Hindi Audible Original podcast. And it’s something that’s also very, very different for me. “
