Reacting to Ranveer Singh’s nude photoshoot for a magazine, his close friend Arjun Kapoor had said, “You should be allowed to be yourself. I don’t think Ranveer Singh has ever done something without being himself, he is never pretentious. When he comes in, there’s warmth, there’s enjoyment, there’s energy. Woh unki personality ka extension hain. Unki marzi hain, unka social media. Unhe sahi lagta hain iss waqt to be in that way that he wants to be. He wants to celebrate being comfortable in his own skin. I think we should respect that.” Even Alia Bhatt had refused to criticize Ranveer’s shoot and stated, “I don’t like anything negative said about my favourite Ranveer Singh. I cannot even tolerate this question. I love him. He will be eternally favourite to everyone of us actually and he has given us so much at the movies, so we should only give him love.”
ETimes has reached out to Ram Gopal Varma for his reaction on this and the filmmaker had stated, “Think it’s his way of demanding justice for gender equality. If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men? It’s hypocritical that men are judged by a different standard. Men should have as many equal rights as women. I think India is finally coming of age and I think this is Ranveer’s statement on gender equality.”
