‘Raksha Bandhan’ extended weekend box office collection: Akshay Kumar starrer ears Rs 34 crore in five days – Times of India

Akshay Kumar set out to narrate a social message with his latest release ‘Raksha Bandhan’, but the film has found few takers. It is also facing competition from Aamir Khan starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and the audience is divided over the two movies.

This Aanand L Rai directorial released on the festive occasion of Rakhi and enjoyed a five-day extended holiday period at the box office. Despite a positive trend in Hindi circuits, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ managed to earn Rs 34 crore at the end of its extended weekend, reports Boxofficeindia. With Monday being a holiday, expectations were high but the collection was lower than Sunday for ‘Raksha Bandhan’. The film is expected to witness a big drop on Tuesday and will take a long time to each the coveted 50 crore nett mark. ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ ended its extended-weekend run with Rs 46 crore nett.

Speaking on the subject of dowry, Akshay Kumar had shared that it is like ‘extortion’ and the malpractice continues to plague India even today. He had said at an event, “We cannot disagree with the fact that dowry is very much there in India. It’s in the layers. Some call it dowry, gift, ‘sankalp’. It has different names. “Some demand that they want to have the wedding on a large scale. I would call it extortion. The father, the brother are not that capable, and yet they try to do as much as they can so that it (the wedding) happens.” On the work front, Akshay has ‘Ram Setu’, ‘Selfiee’, ‘Mission Cindrella’, ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Gorkha’ in the pipeline.
