68th National Film Awards: Asha Parekh receives Dadasaheb Phalke award from President Droupadi Murmu – Times of India


The highest honour of the country – The Dadasaheb Phalke award was bestowed upon Asha Parekh in the year 2020. But the veteran actor recieved her award from the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Friday since the award ceremony was delayed by a year on account of the pandemic.

Interestingly, this award has come to the veteran actress just a day before her 80th birthday. Parekh who started her career as a leading lady in the year 1959 with ‘Dil Deke Dekho’ had worked as a child artiste earlier in many movies. The actress then went on to do some noteworthy work in films like ‘Teesri Manzil’, ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Caravan’ and ‘Chirag’.

The veteran actress was known for her expressions, inimitable grace and dance. No wonder, the highest honour of the country has been bestowed on this legendary actress. Meanwhile, Parekh had recently expressed sadness towards the current state of affair in the industry.

The actress felt upset that Indian movies are moving towards the west and lacking the Indian culture. She’s also quite averse to remixes and called them ‘awful’.

Meanwhile, several artistes also received their National awards from the President today. Ajay Devgn received the award for ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung hero’ for the ‘Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’ category and the best actor. Vishal Bhardwaj received the National award for ‘Best Music Composition’.
