‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ flew past the Rs 100 crore mark in just its first weekend at the box office.

The film which raked in over Rs 40 crore on Day 1, maintained a steady hold at the Indian box office and earned Rs 40.50 crore on Saturday and earned an impressive Rs 47 crore on Sunday. The film’s estimated total now stands at Rs 127.50 crore nett, states a report on boxofficeindia.com.

Driven by huge business in South India and extraordinary numbers in the Nizam/Andhra sectors, the film scored and secured a superb first weekend. According to the report, the film recorded a three-day collection of an estimated Rs 30 crore nett in just this sector, thus setting it up to beat the lifetime record of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in just four days. The other South sectors also seem to be heading towards record numbers with good growth in Tamil Nadu on Sunday as well.

The report states that the sci-fi film saw good growth of around 15% on Sunday in Nizam/Andhra and Tamil Nadu sectors. The growth in business is said to be ‘very good’ for a Hollywood film, especially when it is already drawing in the big bucks.

The business in Hindi circuits wasn’t on par, but the Mumbai and Delhi/UP sectors are likely to maintain a better hold over the box office.

All eyes are now on the box office to see how well the film will perform on its first Monday. While the numbers may drop on the regular working week day, the business coming in from South India will likely keep the film on its record-breaking spree.

The business raked in on Monday will help the film seal its spot on the list of box office blockbusters in India.

On the international front, the film earned a total of USD434.5 million. The sequel earned $134 million from North American theatres and $300.5 million internationally. Pre-weekend predictions called for as much as $500 million worldwide.
