Birthday Special: When Rajesh Khanna complained of being overworked, revealed that no one took him seriously – Times of India

The First Superstar of Hindi cinema, Rajesha Khanna posthumously celebrates his 79th birthday today. The late actor, who was considered as one of the biggest stars in the country tasted immense fame and stardom, but all that came at a cost.

While shooting for Anand, which till date remains the actor’s best work, Rajesh Khanna apparently felt overworked and drained out, but there was no option to take it easy. Talking to Indian film journalist and author Bhawana Somaaya for her book Echoes of an Era, the late actor had revealed that his problem was that he had a tough time saying no and that he wasn’t the disorganised, unprofessional actor that people perceived him to be.

Moving on, the Bawarchi actor recalled that he kept telling producers that he could not sign more films as he had no time and wanted a break, but nothing of that sort happened. For Anand however, the Amar Prem actor lowered his price and came on board willingly, since he was so keen to work with director Hrishikesh Mukherjee. However, it was reported that he would invariably be late on sets, being unable to remember even his dialogues.
Rajesh Khanna, who was married to actor Dimple Kapadia separated from her in 1982 though the two were never officially divorced. He passed away in 2012 after a long battle with cancer. Apart from Dimple, he is survived by daughters Twinkle and Rinke Khanna.
