Recently, the two came together at a book launch where Javed Saab went on to narrate an incident when he and his wife Shabana were waiting at the airport. A man walked upto him and said, ‘Adaab Gulzar saab!’ Initially, taken aback, the writer decided to play along. The man then asked him what he is doing at the airport to which Javed saab hilariously replied that Javed Akhtar (keeping in mind that the man thinks he is Gulzar) is coming from somewhere and he is here to pick him up.
The man, probably confused further asked him if he is really picking up Javed saab from the airport, to which the famed poet replied in the affirmative, saying that he always does that when Javed saab returns after a travel.
The screenwriter even went on to add that though there is no physical resemblance between the two, people with ‘average intelligence’ use their brains like a storeroom, clubbing everyone who works in the same field as one single entity.
The duo also opened up on their bond clarifying that even though they work in the same field, there is no sense of competition between them and on the contrary, they both are are fans of each other’s work.
