The tabloids tell us that the heartbreak song was referencing the singer’s break up from her ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ co-star Joshua Bassett. At the time of the song’s release, Joshua was linked to Sabrina Carpenter, who matched the girl in Rodrigo’s lyrics. Interestingly, both Sabrina and Joashua released their own musical interpretations of the romance, but only Rodrigo struck Grammy gold at the awards season.
