Actress Chrisann Pereira was released from Sharjah jail on Wednesday after her family fought tooth and nail pledging her innocence. Her brother Kevin released a video of his mom Premila heaving a sigh of relief as she spoke to her tearful daughter who finally saw some sunlight after being released from the Sharjah jail. She was arrested on April 1 after drugs were found (planted) in a trophy carried by her.
The mother Pramila Pereira in an exclusive chat with us ahead of her daughter’s release on Wednesday expressed that her only concern was to get her daughter back. Given the evidence that proved her innocence, her return was expected, however what happens after the release was also a concern.
“I am a bit choked. Chrisann feels if she is deported she won’t get to work in India and travel for work. She is frightened to be put into a cockroach room before deportation. I don’t know who has told her this. When she asked for a lawyer, she was laughed at and told she will be there for a long time. So I am a bit low right now,” said the mother.
She added, “I am extremely thankful to Insp Deepak Sawant, Insp Dhanraj Choudary ,Insp Ganesh Todkar and team. Words are not enough to express our gratitude towards your passion, love and honesty in your constant efforts ,working night and day for our daughter Chrisann Pereira’s case. They heard us and worked as a team without looking at the clock. it’s mind blowing to see the speed at which they all worked, their efficiency and they out thinking the scammers. Without Crime branch unit 10 we would have never been able to file an FIR. It seemed impossible but everything is possible with God and all our Indian citizens and people all over the world praying for our daughter. It has given us a feeling of love, unity, support for justice and the power of people and social media. Thank you to each and every human who prayed for Chrisann Pereira and us.”
The family’s lone fight gathered momentum after Chrisann’s brother Kevin took to social media over this month with her case explaining how she was just a victim in this conspiracy. On investigation, the Mumbai Crime Branch discovered that the actress was framed in revenge. The police arrested two people, Anthony Paul – a bakery owner also the mastermind in this case and Rajesh Bobhate, also known as Ravi.
The mother also shared with us a note from Jehan Manekshaw (grandson of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw). Chrisann is an alumni of the illustrious Drama School Mumbai, run by Jehan Manekshaw whose noteable alumni include her batchmates Adarsh Gaurav (White Tiger), Srishti Srivastava (Gulabo Sitabo), Roshan Matthew (Choked) and many others.Mr. Manekshaw said, “the DSM community is very proud of Chrisanne, she exemplifies the best qualities of our alumni, rigourous, disciplined, a strong passion for her talent, and most of all, being a great ensemble (team spirit) and having integrity and honestly in all her work and doings.”
